J Roberts Accounting was formed officially in February 1988 after five years as a part-time venture.
Jeff graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1976 with a BBA degree in Accounting and went
into the large corporate world of accounting and auditing. A short time later, he took a position
with Comprehensive Accounting Corporation, the largest franchised accounting business in the
country at that time, setting up small businesses and learning about taxes from franchise owners
with years of varied experience. This exposed him to every kind of business imaginable, and it was
in the small business and tax world that Jeff found his niche-people who don't wear suits, send
memos, or have fancy organization charts. His focus is entirely on real people, listening,
counseling, and helping them earn and keep their money.
The business was incorporated in 1998, continuing to expand from the Naperville/DuPage area into
the Fox Valley. Now, clients are scattered over a dozen states. Through the joys of modern
electronics, Jeff can handle clients efficiently anywhere that there's a good internet connection.
Jeff's clients include auto and truck repair shops, one-person businesses of all kinds-consultants,
software folks, engineers, realtors, printers, construction - from development to landscaping and
everything in between, retail and service businesses, and non-profits. He's particularly talented
in selecting the right entity for a new business, whether it's time to incorporate, use an LLC, or
neither for awhile. And he's pretty passionate about S corps when the time and situation is right.

People are the focus of the business. Jeff is willing to work with just about anyone without
using a cookie-cutter approach. He'll help you set up your own books if you like, or keep them
for you, or anything in between. Working to find the balance between your skills and time and
the budget that you have for accounting is the goal, so that you can receive maximum benefit
for what you pay. Building partnerships and sharing from his depth of experience and knowledge
are the best investments of his time, and where his clients benefit most.
Jeff is a member of The National Association of Tax Professionals and a Quickbooks Certified ProAdvisor.
He is married for 26 years, with two near-grown kids,
enjoys the outdoors, hunting, sailing, serving at his local church and Wayside Cross Rescue
Mission, and traveling with his wife (without the kids!). If he's not in, he's probably
doing one of those things!
